![]() Even when the extension tube is wide open, it still cleans the water surface effectively. The surface skimmer seems to be very effective provided that you don't fill your tank to the brim. Still overpowered for a tank that size but it's better than having an underpowered filter.ġ. I know it's overkill for my tank but I'm pretty sure to upgrade to a 55 gallon tank in the future. Like I said om my previous post, I'm interested in the Fluval C series but I've been hearing reports of heavy bypass and noisy impellers.įor these reasons, I'm leaning towards getting another Tidal. I currently have the 55 on it but I'm thinking of adding a second filter. I'm also considering another Tidal filter for my 23g tank. I just want to see one in person to make sure I don't get one with a noisy motor should I decide to purchase that instead of another Tidal filter. So I'm willing to forgive the Fluval C series for that. Depending on the order and how your media is stacked inside the basket, any HOB can get bypass. But bypass more due to user error, I think. I think the filtration is fairly comprehensive in those as well but reviews over at YouTube suggests either very noisy operation which might require the help of Vaseline or bypass.įor these reasons, I'm leaning more into getting another Tidal. I'm looking at the Fluval C3 to supplement my Tidal. All HOB's will make some sort of noise if air is fed into the system, but I could be wrong. So long as you don't go below the minimum line. Not even when I keep it running while doing 25-30% water changes. I've haven't experienced noise from my Tidal 55 yet. I'm not saying I'm more experienced or knowledgable than they are but this might help.Ĭlick to expand.Sorry to hear that. I think it's due to user error and not the filter itself. Water now is crystal clear and everything is working great! Been reading a few reviews on the Tidal series and there were a few saying that they get bypass. So I reconfigured, blue filter media at the bottom, white fine filter pad in the middle, Matrix carbon for the 3rd later then at the topmost the matrix bag that also came with the Tidal 55. Alongside that, I decided to add fine filter foam above and below the coarse blue one that came with the Tidal 55, therefore sandwiching it. I reset the tank on the 3rd day since I wasn't happy with the landscaping. I got good results off the bat, water was cleared well within a few hours of cycling. Granted, I've never owned a canister or a sump so it's safe to say that it's the best filter I ever bought. I purchased the Tidal 55 last week and I found it to be a really, really good hob filter. I never considered spending this much on a filter. This time with a quality filter which is a first. Not all water being pumped through passed all the media but like I said, they did the job.įast-forward 5 years later, got back in the hobby and setup a new 22g freshwater tank. I instead retrofitted them with foam pads and bio media in their very limited space. They did the job but required cartridges which I never bought. To be honest, they did a pretty good job considering I was running them on a reef aquarium which I don't think they were made for. In the past, I used various cheap hob filters. Thanks for reading this far and if you have any other input feel free to discuss it. ![]() The only downside in my opinion is it's only available in 3 sizes but other than that it's the best power filter on the market. Other than that it has a flow rate adjustment and you can select the amount you want the skimmer to take in. The last two features that really sold this filter to me are it has a self priming motor that is in the tank so there's no waiting for it to prime during startup and it has a built in surface skimmer. Another nice feature is that while the tidal only comes with Matrix-bio media and a foam pad Seachem has a number of different options for media AND a practically sized media basket which allows for plenty of different configurations and stages. ![]() First thing I'd like to mention about it is that it comes with a warranty that's automatically 3 years but can be extended to 5 years by registering it on their website which is pretty nice if anything happens to it down the road. I've used many Aqueon QuietFlow's, a couple in the Aquaclear line, and some really bad one that Marina manufactured but recently when setting up a couple of 36 gallon bowfronts and a 60 gallon tank I discovered that Seachem has a filter called the tidal. There are many different options to choose from when shopping for a HOB power filter.
